A great new album with Robert Rook released. LISTEN ON SPOTIFY Electronic Dance Music meets compelling improvisations Robert Rook – Fender Rhodes & MPC Groovebox, Efraim Trujillo – Tenor & Soprano Saxophone Thomas Winther Andersen – Electric Bass, Bart van Helsdingen – Drums and Percussion The Music on New Era associates with musical styles like Jazz-Fusion, Acid Jazz and Electronic Dance Music. It is influenced by artists such as Miles Davis, The Headhunters and Robert Glasper. The band has been playing together for thirty years, allowing the music itself to become their language. A few years ago, Robert started experimenting with an electronic groovebox giving a foundation and driving beat to New Era. Rook reminds me of the better sides of ‘Herbie Hancock’.

After living and playing in New York for half a year, Robert is back in the Netherlands with a new double CD called Tribute to Jochem. Famous drummer Billy Hart writes in his liner notes: I found that everything I heard was more than accurate. He possesses great imagination; energy withcontemporary vision. Saxophone player Dave Liebman says: I was familiar with Roberts music before and think he combines a true sense of tradition with his own concept. As well, he has a good group to support him. A wonderful pianist. This double CD consists of compositions by Robert Rook and Thomas Winther Andersen.

Hymn For Fall featuring Andersen’s compositions was released in November 2006, Dangerous Cats2 in February 2007. www.side2.no concludes its review with: Now that Andersen has composed forceful, melodic jazz that presents a challenge both to listeners and players, there is not much more one could wish for. Except this: can somebody get the Robert Rook Trio on to a Norwegian stage as soon as possible? Dangerous Cats 2, released in march 2007: He is an extraordinarily complete pianist, and the beautiful grand piano at the Bimhuis has rarely been given such a heavy and satisfying workout as it has this Friday For more reviews and details view the Album menu.
